Springfield Villages

Today, when you say you live in Springfield, PA, you often must specify the county (Montco, or Montgomery County). Otherwise people (and Google) might assume you are referring to Springfield, Delaware County. So we often describe where we live by the village (list below). Perhaps we should consider renaming ourselves Springfield Villages, or Springfield Manor, or something else distinct.

It can be challenging for us to think of ourselves as one unified township with shared interests and concerns, when we can't identify ourselves by name, for fear of explanation or confusion. How we think about ourselves impacts how we act in our best interest. We must be prepared to act as a single community to achieve the greatest good for all our villages and neighborhoods.

Springfield Township was William Penn's gift to his first wife, Gulielma Maria Springett Penn. "Gulielma Maria Penn's Mannor of Springfield" was first designated on a map in 1681 and this date is prominently displayed on the Township Seal. The first reference to "Springfield Township" occurred in 1718.
