Soccer Fields in Springfield

Soccer field at the Middle School

Members of the soccer community in Springfield have expressed their concern about the availability of fields within the township. Further, there is a desire to have some of them lit so that games and practices can take place in the evening hours.

I certainly fully agree that we should work to provide adequate athletic fields for our kids to enjoy sports.

At the October 2010 meeting of the Board of Commissioners, we discussed the possibility of adding a new athletic field in Oreland. However, that would take some time to come to pass.

Within the past decade, the Township has seen new fields at Laurel Beech, LaSalle and Carson Valley, but the shortage still exists.

If you have suggestions, please notify me and I will pass along your thoughts to the board.

Adding lights to existing fields would certainly extend the usefulness of those fields into the evening hours. My concern would be on the impact on the immediate neighbors. I am open to pursuing this option, but we must be careful to preserve the quality of life for all our neighbors even as we work to upgrade our facilities to meet our current needs.
